Native PortsPTPortuguês

About

A community index of unofficial native ports: console games running as ordinary programs on your computer, built from the game's own code instead of an emulator.

Two ways to run a game natively

Static recompilation. A tool reads the console's machine code (PowerPC on the Xbox 360, MIPS on the N64 and PlayStation, x86 on the original Xbox) and translates every function ahead of time into C or C++, which is then compiled into a normal executable. A runtime stands in for the console's graphics, sound and system calls. Toolchains include ReXGlue and XenonRecomp for the Xbox 360 and N64Recomp for the Nintendo 64.

Native execution. The PS4 already uses an x86-64 CPU, so its game code can run on a PC as it is. bbport does this for Bloodborne: a small runtime replaces the PS4's system libraries and the graphics are translated to Vulkan, much like Wine and DXVK do for Windows games. Its forks take it to other platforms and other games.

Decompilations (source code rewritten by hand) and emulators are outside this catalog.
